In an atlas of impossible longing publisher writer anuradha roy not to be confused with arundati roy author of the god of small things traces one familys dysfunction through three generations offering up a tale of caste and ill fated love and decaying houses. The first 100 or so pages of this started out as strong as an atlas of impossible longing which i absolutely loved reading last year i remember now why i love anuradha roys writing so much it comes off as enchanting and magical and she says everything so eloquently and with occasional large words. Description beginning in 1907 with the founding of a factory in songarh a small provincial town where narrow attitudes prevail the story is of three generations of an indian family brilliantly told in which a sensitive and intelligent foundling boy orphan who is casteless and without religion and bakul the motherless granddaughter of the house grow up together
